I wish I could fly
I wish I could fly
in the sky.
I wish I could fly so high,
In the sky.
I wish I could fly
like the bird in the air.
I wish I could fly
like the eagle on the mountain.
I wish I could fly
like the rocket to the moon.

The Mayflower is sinking
The Mayflower is sinking.
What can we do?
There, a storm is coming up.
The lightning strip has
broken the beam.
What can we do?
We have to fix the beam,
before she sinks.
——————————————
I asked
“ what is Mayflower?
Ship of Columbus?”
And Jay said –
“Yes and No.
Yes , because it was.
AND NO BECAUSE, IT IS OUR LIFE !”

Oh you planets in the sky
You shine upon my eye.
You make me want to wonder so much
You make such a beautiful shine.
I want to have a planet that is just mine.
You have a great ring,
that makes me want to sing.
You are surely away from me
But I can see Thee.
- Jay Jani
[ Jay is my daughter's son in second grade. He wrote this poem in ten minutes. And I have reproduced without any changes. I asked him what he means by the last line.
And listen friends ! He says , seeing the planets, he is reminded of the Creator of all these planets. And though He is away, he can see HIM ! A poet is indeed budding ! ]

Kids playing instruments, it is fun.
They are doing actions, they’re having a run.
Playing music sweetly sweet, sweet,
They sure know, using dancing dance dance.
The birds go tweety tweet tweet ,
The animals follow them around
In the lovely camp ground.
All are dancing about the fancy and the dancy,
Singing “Pull out, pull out the boat,
Out of the ground.”
- Jay Jani
Jay is my daughter Rucha’s son - 7 years old and a second grader. Seeing me write poems, he too wanted to on his own, without prompting. And lo! this is his first creation.
This is a deviation from my policy of writing in Gujrati here. I hope your responses will encourage him to write further. Please give your comments in English, so that he can read them himself.
